The SDF is a daily levy paid by all international guests to support Bhutan’s unique “High Value, Low Volume” tourism model. It is not a fee for your tour services; rather, it is a direct investment in Bhutan’s people, environment, and future.

No. The $100 SDF is a government royalty. Your tour costs—including 3- to 5-star accommodations, a private vehicle, a licensed guide, and all meals—are separate. In 2026, these services are also subject to a 5% GST, though the SDF itself remains tax-exempt.
The process is seamless. You pay the total SDF for your trip and the one-time $40 Visa Fee in advance. We (your tour operator) will handle the application for you. Once the funds are received by the Bhutan National Bank, your visa clearance is typically issued within 3–5 working days.
Yes. If you cancel your trip before arrival or decide to leave Bhutan earlier than planned, the SDF for the unused nights is 100% refundable. The Department of Immigration processes these refunds after you have exited the country.
